Civil War

This video shows footage from a civil war. It relates to the story because it is also about a civil war. Both are about two sides of a battle fighting for their different beliefs. They involve a rebellion. It shows the chaos that is caused, and how peoples lives are during those times. Both were about a rebellion. It shows that people were fighting for what they believed in, and in the story, that also meant there would be brothers fighting brothers.
In the story, people fighting for their beliefs caused more pain than happiness. While the sniper was doing what he thought was the right thing, he did something that he probably never even thought he was capable of.
The story takes a target and turns it into an actual person. The men in the video are just faces to ur, but the story makes us think about them more. They were actual people, with lives who were fighting and were doing what they thought was right.
It is possible that there were brothers fighting brothers.
People are all capable of terrible things they never thought possible.

Humanity?

The image to the right is an old newspaper clipping of an obituary from a civil war. It is a list of the men who died fighting.
To us this is just a list of names. We see them as names instead of seeing them as people. We can't help it because we didn't know them. In the story, the sniper just sees those people as targets, as part of his job. He sees killing them as something he is just expected to do. It is his job to be a sniper and unfortunately it is his job to take away the lives of others.
The story shows that people are capable of anything. People create their own preceptions of right and wrong. The sniper was able to kill his own brother because he did not see him as a person. If the sniper had never seen the target's face, he would have just been another name on the list.

Sniper's View

"The Sniper", is a short story with many hidden messages. It is about a civil war that has brothers fighting brothers.
The story shows that a person's feelings can change vastly depending on how they decide to view a situation. This image shows a man who is also a sniper, simply as a target. He is not being considered a person and feelings are not involved. In the story the sniper merely saw his opponent as a target and his feelings later changed when he learned that it was his brother.
This story shows just how easy it is for people to ignore humanity and see other people as numbers, or targets, or even opportunities.
